“The Powerful Bond: A Tale of Itsada and Sumo” by John Alden. I had not heard of this author before, but I was intrigued by the synopsis of the book and decided to give it a try.

Content: The story is about the unlikely friendship between a young Thai boy named Itsada and an orphaned elephant named Sumo. The book takes us on a journey through their unique bond and the challenges they face along the way. I found the plot to be heart-warming and engaging, and the characters were well-developed. I especially enjoyed the way the author portrayed the relationship between Itsada and Sumo.

The strength of this book lies in the way the author weaves together themes of friendship, perseverance, and the power of the human-animal bond. However, at times, I felt that the pacing was a bit slow, and some parts of the story seemed a bit predictable. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book overall, and there were several moments that touched my heart.

Writing style: I appreciated the author’s writing style, which was descriptive and engaging. The vivid descriptions of the Thai landscape and culture made me feel like I was right there with Itsada and Sumo. The author’s use of different perspectives and narrative techniques also added depth and dimension to the story.

Overall impression: “The Powerful Bond: A Tale of Itsada and Sumo” is a charming and heart-warming read that I would recommend to anyone who loves stories about unlikely friendships and the power of the human-animal bond. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is an inspiring story that is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.

ABOUT

The tales of war are best told by those who have fought in the battles, endured the elements, suffered through pain, and nurtured camaraderie with their brothers in peril.

THE FALKLANDS WAR: From Defeat to Victory is an amazing story told by one of the Royal Marines who was there.

See things at ground zero from under the green beret of John Alden as he describes this historic event. He was in the first battle that began at Government House. The British military was captured and forced to surrender.

As the world read the papers, the front page showed the infamous photo of John and his brothers in arms standing with their hands up as the Argentine soldiers ridiculed and belittled them.

This dark day in British history did not go unanswered when, days after, they sent more troops. Ultimately, John Alden and his fellow Royal Marines ended back at Government House ten weeks later. Only, this time, they flew the British flag in final victory.

This Marine also shares personal anecdotes of his hometown and does an amazing job of describing life in a small English village.

Hear the story like it has never been told before with nothing censored or sugar coated. Some might argue it is the best account of the Falklands War to date.

ABOUT

The Falkland war, yes, I was there forty years ago! What do I remember? Everything of course, it’s not like I’m going to forget something like that.
After forming NP8901 in Poole, We arrived on the islands situated 8 thousand miles away in the south Atlantic, just two days before the Argentinian Special Forces invaded the place.
On April the 1st, I tell no lies we started smashing up the decoding equipment and destroying any governmental paperwork thought to be sensitive, then that night in the moody brook barracks bar we sat down and listened to the boss give orders for the defence of the Falklands islands.
The plan was to engage the forces on the beach when they landed, but they landed by helicopter just behind our now empty barracks, shooting the place up expecting to catch us asleep in our beds.
A four-hour fire fight was underway with me , the GPMG gunner loosing off around, two thousand rounds at anything that moved, while we made our way back towards town and government house.

“You are not fighting for this island. This time, gentlemen, you’re fighting for yourselves. The hour is now upon us, that hour which every soldier worth his salt must one day confront. As we speak, Argentine forces are massing off of the shore, ready to invade this island from us. Right lads? Today? Today, you’re all going to die, so get out there, do your job.

My Story about the Falklands conflict 1982

ABOUT

In the writing of this book it was my aim to bring some light to the very serious subject of the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland, in particular a certain time , 1986. As a Royal Marine serving with 45 commando my experiences are written a rather narrow perspective, me being just a Marine on the ground, doing what I’m told to do. The stories or ‘Dits’ as we call them are all true accounts by myself, recalled from memories 35 years after the events.
My research involved the use of the internet by searching for certain dates when events coincided with my own recollections, my stories have been told over many times during the years as I’ve travelled the world mixing with likeminded and experienced former military people with similar experiences.
The reflective process has helped me in my personal development with the aim of letting out emotions which have been pent up in the dark recesses of my mind for all these years. I have learned a lot more about the ‘Troubles’ through my research , more than I ever knew when I patrolled the streets of West Belfast or crawled through the field of South Armagh.
The book takes the reader on a personal journey when I join the Royal Marines at the age of 16 years old to when I left ten years later in 1989 the year when I started my now 30 years offshore as a Commercial Diver, Supervisor and eventually Diving Superintendent.
Enjoy the ‘Dits’

Living the dream ” I gazed at the blue sea lapping onto the beach, less than ten feet away from the glass fronted tattoo parlour, the buzz of the needle gun brought back my attention to the job in hand. A beautiful girl lay on the shop floor. Covered with Thai cushions, she wanted a small piece of my artwork just to the left of her Vagina. She started to become aroused by the vibration of the gun, as my wrist rested on her pelvis to steady my hand.”
